Shoes

I was getting ready to clean the toxic wasteland I call my bedroom when I noticed how many freaking pair of shoes I have. Most people associate a shoe addiction with women but another breed of shoe lovers are...skateboarders. I don't know why but almost every skater I know loves shoes. Maybe its the fact that we go through them so fast from skating in them but for some reason new shoes is always a priority in my life. It sucks sometimes cause I'll have to face the decision of paying my phone bill, or buying the new pair of Nike SB blazers, which normally ends up with me having a disconnected cell phone. haha Anyways, if anybody wants to know what my favorite shoe is for some odd reason ( my birthday is next month August 21st) I love Vans, the shoe is called Half Cab and I wear a size 9. haha So the story and moral to this post is......I need a girlfriend so I can stop writing about my shoes!!!! I've really hit a low point in life right now. haha Take care and thank you for taking a trip down the Life Of Tobal.

A Letter to the King of Pop

Dear Michael Jackson,
My name is Cris. I've been a fan of your music my whole life. I know your now dead but if by any chance they have the internet in heaven and you happen to stumble upon my awesome blog this letter is for you. Since I was young I always danced to your music from Billie Jean, The way you make me feel, to your later hits You Rock my world etc..... One day when I was 14 my best friends Jared, and Josh dressed up with black high waters with white socks, one white glove, and unbuttoned white shirts and went to a church dance. We didn't put the white gloves on at first cause we didnt want to spoil the surprise. We went up to the DJ and requested that he plays " Billie Jean." After a few songs passed by we went out to the hallway to get a drink. I remember gulping down some cold koolaid when I heard that famous bassline start playing. We all jumped up and yelled out " He's playing the song! he's playing the song!" We rushed in the side doors, ran to the very front of the dance floor and began to grab our crotch while thrusting our hips to the beat. All the other kids were gathered around cheering/ laughing as we began to spin on our heels and throw one arm up, pointing the sky, screaming.
Its now 2009 and I'm 26 years old and I still talk about that night with my buddies and how much fun we had. Thanks to you and your music I'm sure millions of people have had great memories in their life whether funny, sad, or happy while listening to your music. You seemed to have a great heart, and cared alot for the world. I'm sorry your childhood didn't really exist, and even your adulthood was filled with lies, broken friendships, tabloids etc....but now your at peace and just wanted you to know I appreciated everything you did.
love your fan,
Tobal

Science Fiction

How come there's no good sci - fi movies anymore? Yes, I am a nerd. haha. My dad was way into Science Fiction so it rubbed off on me. I grew up watching Star Trek every night, The Outer Limits, and movies like Star Wars, Buckaroo Bonzai, The Martian Chronicles, and now there's no good sci fi movies or shows on. It sucks.
Funny Story that just popped in my head. My dad had this newsletter he made monthly called " Osiris". He would go by the name "The Cosmic Ray" since his first name was Ray. I'm telling you all this so you can picture how big into space and aliens my pops was. Well he would also do meetings where people would gather at some diner and shared abduction stories, or show pictures of UFO's. So one day Me, my brother Ray, and my Dad went out to the country with a camera and a fake UFO we made from wrapping tin foil around a frisbee shaped metal tree stand we had from Christmas time and a taped gold marble at the bottom. We found a good location off the side of the road and my dad turned the camera on while my brother walked up the hill. After Ray got to the top my dad handed me this big blanket to catch the thing in while Ray threw the fake saucer high in the air while my Dad took pics of it. I'll have to find the copies of it and post it on here. Anyways, the pics came out good and the next meeting my dad had, Ray and I sat in the back and listened as my dad fed everyone this biggest B.S story about how 3 lights came towards him then flew off as he took this picture of the one of the saucers. Awww...good times.

Introduction into Skateboarding

Most people that know me, know that I love skateboarding but I don't think many people know how I got into it. So before I try to fall asleep which is most likely to fail since I'm on the worst sleeping schedule known to mankind I thought I would tell you how.
I grew up most of my life in the Central Valley of California in a town called Ceres or what I like to to call "The place where dreams don't come true" haha. I went to an elementary school named Walter White till the middle of sixth grade where I switched to the school across the street from our new house. Of course being the new kid at school, everyone was coming up introducing themselves and I instantly became friends with two guys...Mike Bringleson and Carlos Garza. I was really into breakdancing at the time, and would always breakdance at school and try to battle kids. My friend Mike was into skating but never really told me how much he liked it until a few years later in 8th grade. He always told me they were remodeling his bedroom cause he was embarrassed that he had skate pics from magazines all over his wall. Anyways, one day I was there in my dancing gear which consisted of dirty white sweats and a grey pair of pumas and I asked him to show me how to " Bunny Hop " on a skateboard. He first corrected me by telling me it's called an "ollie" and gave me instructions on how to perform the main trick you need to learn to accomplish any other type of trick in skateboarding. After an hour of trying it on the carpet...I ollied! Since that day, I've been hooked. Soon later I bought a used board of some dude and pushed everywhere. Years later, I'm now 26 and my mind is still consumed with this hobby. No matter what is going on in my life, whether it's going great, or the complete opposite all I have to do is just grab my board and start pushing and my problems fade away and I get the biggest smile on my face. Thanks Mike for sharing your hobby with me so many years ago. ( side note - if anyone is in Ceres, on Moffet Rd. infront of the Jr. High Mae Hensley, there's a row of trees on the side of the sidewalk. Infront of the first tree you can look down at the sidewalk and see where Mike and I wrote in the wet cement ( Cris, Mike, skate forever) Keep Rolling.
